Yes, Timbuktu is such a far-out place that people hardly know where it is or, if it even exists. So, one purpose of this blog is to introduce Timbuktu, to unearth this place from the depths of obscurity, and make known its glorious history!
The focus of this blog is more on Timbuktu's history from the 14th to 16th century. Potential questions that may be answered with information from these webpages.
1. What brought about the rise of Timbuktu? What led to its decline?
2. What were the developments in Timbuktu?
This blog is structured according to the contents section on the right-hand side of this webpage. The themes to be explored are Timbuktu's economic as well as intellectual development, arguably pillars of a developed and thriving city.
PS: A teacher really told a bunch of students the above Timbuktu joke. This is really one Uniquely Singaporean joke, with its reference to Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 of Singapore's Changi Airport. No offence to the Timbuktu folks!
PPS: The photo on the header of this blog is borrowed from the Sydney Morning Herald, source being Reuters. It shows a Tuareg nomad(apparently) in front of the Djingareyber Mosque
